Stochastic Study on Water Quality Variation and Intake Time for Water Use in the Ran River

Abstract
The stochastic analysis was carried out to the hourly and daily time series including dissolved oxygen, turbidity, conductivity, pH, water temperature, air temperature and stream flow measured at Noryangjin and Dukto in 1976. The autocorrelation coefficients and the variance spectrums of the time series were used to find the characteristics of water quality- variations, and the ARIMA models to describe the daily time series. The results of the analysis were as follows, 1) the period of hourly water quality variation¢¥ was 24 hours, 2) it seemed good- to the water intake to select the time between 1:00 and 3:00p. m, and 3) the (p,d,q) ARIMA models, as (1,0,0) to dissolved oxygen, conductivity and pH, (1,0, 1) to water temperature and air temperature, and (2,0,1) to turbidity, could provide relative; satisfactory results.
